Pastor’s Reflections – May 5, 2023

Good Afternoon:
I hope and pray you're having a great week and enjoying the sun today.  I so look forward to seeing everyone in church on Sunday, i've missed you all these last couple of weeks!  I'm very thankful, though, to have had the time with my family to recharge and prepare for a wonderful spring and summer season together!  Thank you especially to Colin White and Rev. Holly Tomilson for covering for me in my absence.
We are continuing our Rise Up series this Sunday as I'll be sharing a message on Acts Chapter 7:55-60, the sacrifice and martyrdom of Stephen.  One question to ponder is how sacrifice has been part of your journey of faith, have there been people who have sacrificially, (in their own way), been part of your faith formation?  Or, are there people who may identify YOU as someone who has been an important part of their faith development?  What has it been like for you?  Interesting thoughts to ponder and reflect upon.  I'd love to hear your reflections and stories on this; you can email me back or catch me on Sunday, I'd love to chat about what comes to mind for you!  We are also celebrating the baptism of River Kenly Demers with his parents Daniel Demers and Brooke Sheeran - Demers.  Baptisms of sweet little ones like River are always a special treat!

I have a few other activity/program related updates for you as well:

  • The Young Adult Activity for tonight, 5/5 has been postponed. More info to come on that later!

  • The Men's Breakfast Group led by Peter Naitove is ON for tomorrow, (Saturday 5/6), at 8:30AM in the Fellowship Hall. ALL guys are welcome to join in for breakfast, connection, and conversation.

  • There is an All Church Hike after church on (Sunday 5/7), at Wagon Hill in Durham.  If you'd like to join in, meet up in the Fellowship Hall after church with Sheila and Kevin Barnes.  Carpooling options are available.

  • There is a New Member Group formed which will be meeting at the NCC Thrift Shop and Schoppmeyer Park after worship on (Sunday 5/7) for a picnic and connection opportunity.  If you've been thinking about this and wondering what it means to be a member at NCC, it is not too late to join in. If you would like to join in, please email me back and let me know you're coming.

  • Each Tuesday, we host a Grief Group at 1PM in the Lounge on the second floor of NCC and each Wednesday we host Scripture Chat at 2PM via video call and in person in my study.  Both of these programs are open to everyone who would like to join in!

And finally, would you please pray with me

  • For the family and friends of Rose Carpenter as we will celebrate her life at NCC on Saturday 5/6 at 4PM.

  • For the family and friends of Jean Shaw who passed away into the loving arms of our Lord today.  As planning is confirmed for the celebration of her life, I will share with all of you.

  • For Deltina Witham that she may be covered with God's healing love.

  • For all those who mourn, who live in fear, and who especially need our prayers at this time.  Lord in your mercy.

May God bless you and keep you until I see you again my dear friends in faith.

With Peace and Love,
Pastor Patty
