Pastor’s Reflections – April 1, 2023
On Sunday we begin the week that we call holy, but it will not be holy simply because we say it is. It will be holy if we treat it differently than any other week.
It will be holy if we open our hearts to the grace and blessings of God throughout these sacred days. It will be holy if we walk with Jesus who endured humiliation, rejection, suffering and even death, on the path to Jerusalem.
How might we make this week holy?
We could step away from the social media and the noise that can so often consume us and replace it with some quiet time in prayer on these sacred days.
We could reread the Passion story (Mark 14-15, Matthew 26-27, Luke 22-23, and/or John 18-19) meditatively trying to see ourselves in the people who Jesus met along the way.
We could participate in the Tenebrae service on Thursday and experience the passion in a communal way, for when we do, we are profoundly reminded of God's great love for us.
We could schedule an hour of prayer in the sanctuary during the prayer vigil.
Whatever you do throughout these sacred days, I invite you to make a choice to take a spiritual journey, a pilgrimage of sorts. Walk with the Lord to Jerusalem. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus. Be prayerful and reflective, for then it will be truly a holy week as together we proclaim: "Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!"
